Each year the Overland Park Rotary Club
selects charities to receive money raised by the Star Spanged Spectacular
event. Charities selected for the year 2006 are Angel Flight Central, Safe Home Kansas and The Children's SPOT. Listed below
is a brief description of these deserving charities.
Angel Flight Central
Angel Flight Central's mission is to serve people in need by arranging charitable flights for access to health care and for other humanitarian purposes.
Angel Flight Central also promotes, supports and represents public benefit flying through communication, coordination and cooperation among and between complimentary organizations.

Safe Home Kansas
SAFEHOME's services have grown tremendously over the last 10 years. Services focus on education, prevention, crisis-intervention and long-term community support, including:

SAFEHOME is one of six metro domestic violence shelters, and is the only program of services for victims of domestic violence in Johnson County.

The Children's SPOT
The Children's SPOT (Speech, Physical and Occupational Therapy), a department of Saint Luke's Hospital, has been providing early and intensive rehabilitative therapy to young children with disabilities and developmental delays since 1980. Infants and preschool aged children with speech, language, hearing, learning and/or physical disablilities arising from problems such as autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and complications from premature birth are among those served. The primary goal of the program is to increase each child's functional independence and quality of life regardless of ability to pay.

Overland Park Rotary Club Youth Leadership Institute (YLI): One of the goals of Rotary is to help young people develop their leadership abilities and self-confidence to the fullest. In furtherance of this goal, the Overland Park Rotary Club sponsors an annual week long program for a select group of local high school students known as YLI. YLI develops"Tomorrow's Leaders Today" through innovative, challenging and fun-filled activities designed to empower these youth to make a difference in their
home, school, place of work and community. Now in its 12th year, YLI boasts of more than 240 alumni from over 22 area high schools.

Overland Park Rotary Club Foundation:
Rotarians are dedicated to humanitarian service, high ethical standards in
their business and personal life, and the promotion of understanding and
harmony in the communities in which they live. The Overland Park Rotary
Club Foundation fosters and supports charitable and educational programs in
fulfillment of the object of Rotary. The Foundation funds are distributed
either as specified by a particular donor, or at the discretion of its Board
of Trustees. Foundation funds recipients have included Polio Plus,
Southeast Asia Tsunami Relief, The Deanna Rose Farmstead Children's
Playground and students seeking college scholarships.
