Each year the Overland Park Rotary Club
selects charities to receive money raised by the Star Spanged Spectacular
event. Charities selected for the year 2007 are reStart Inc., Accessible Arts, Inc. and The Health Partnership Clinic of Johnson County. Listed below
is a brief description of these deserving charities.
reStart Inc.
reStart Inc. is an interfaith ministry with homeless persons committed to
providing shelter and supportive services for homeless men, women, families
with children and youth with the goal of helping persons move toward
independence and self-sufficiency.
During the past year, these programs
served 3,762 individuals and families, this included over 600 children and
youth: 83,718 bed nights were provided. reStart offers a Street Outreach
program and an Emergency Shelter program to better serve homeless persons.

Accessible Arts, Inc.
Accessible Arts Inc. provides high-quality arts experiences for children
with and without disabilities in Johnson County. They believe that through
the arts, children develop critical thinking skills, take risks in a safe
environment and experience successes.
Advocacy, education and collaboration
are essential components in accomplishing our objectives. Accessible Arts
offers programming from summer camps to classroom learning that benefits the
children of Johnson County.

The Health Partnership Clinic of Johnson County
The Health Partnership Clinic of Johnson County is dedicated to providing
affordable access to quality primary medical care for Johnson County's
low-income, uninsured residents through partnerships with medical, dental,
volunteer and community recourses.
It is Johnson County's only safety-net
medical clinic serving low-income uninsured children, youth and adults. The
clinic's mission is a strong match with the Rotary Club's current focus on
health, hunger and literacy.

Overland Park Rotary Club Youth Leadership Institute (YLI)
Each summer the Overland Park Rotary Foundation conducts a week long program
for approximately thirty high school students. The program's objectives are
to promote civic engagement and citizenship. Participants in the program
study discuss and apply leadership concepts, skills, models, styles and
methods.
Students work as part of a team to prepare and present small group
projects. In addition, the program includes teambuilding exercises at
Adventure Woods, participation in a diversity awareness program and work
sessions with Johnson County leaders.
Overland Park Rotary Club Foundation:
Rotarians are dedicated to humanitarian service, high ethical standards in
their business and personal life, and the promotion of understanding and
harmony in the communities in which they live. The Overland Park Rotary
Club Foundation fosters and supports charitable and educational programs in
fulfillment of the object of Rotary. The Foundation funds are distributed
either as specified by a particular donor, or at the discretion of its Board
of Trustees. Foundation funds recipients have included Polio Plus,
Southeast Asia Tsunami Relief, The Deanna Rose Farmstead Children's
Playground and students seeking college scholarships.
